Q) WHAT IS INCLUDED IN THE PRICE OF THE SEAT?
A) The seat includes all brackets, fasteners, seatbelts and buckles you will need to install a complete prisoner security and transport system.
Only in the new Ford Interceptor SUV (SUVIC1310 and SUVIS1311), a metal rear screen comes standard as part of the kit.
Q) WHAT DO YOU MEAN BY “FACTORY BELT” AND “CENTERBELT”?
A) With either setup, Aedec includes the patented Pro-Straint® handles, and extended buckle wands.
In a “Factory Belt” configuration, the factory seatbelt remains at the door side of the vehicle and is fastened into the Aedec supplied extended buckle wands, which are mounted to the supplied brackets located in the center of the seat. So the seatbelt works from outside-to-in.
In a “Centerbelt” or “C/Belt” configuration, the Aedec supplied seatbelt is mounted onto the brackets located in the center of the seat, and fastens into the Aedec supplied buckles, which are mounted at the doorside of the vehicle. So the seatbelt works from inside-to-out.
Q) DOES IT FIT OVER EXISTING SEATS?
A) No. Extra space can be gained by taking out the existing seat. Greater headroom and leg room are accomplished by fitting the TPO seat directly against the bulkhead. When the patrol cars are ordered, it is not necessary to order the vinyl upgrade for the rear seat. The less expensive cloth seat can be ordered, stored, then put back in the vehicle for higher resale value.
Q) WHAT SETS AEDEC'S PRISONER SEAT ABOVE THE OTHERS?
AEDEC is the standard and has not had to design around any other patents. AEDEC engineers have designed the Pro-Straint® Prisoner Seat to be the finest and most durable seat possible. The utmost attention has been given to reduce the exposure to physical damage and civil liability associated with transporting a prisoner. Strict attention has been given to comply with every reasonable and applicable law. Seats can look alike but to get your money's worth, here is what to look for ....
- AEDEC's patented contoured wrist relief channels are designed to significantly reduce damage to the radial nerve during transport. The uniquely engineered ramped contours are designed to, keep the handcuffs away from the back of the seat. Most lawsuits on handcuff neuropathy are thought to be a result of the tightening of the cuff during the transporting process or as a result of the significant portion of the prisoner's weight being specifically directed to the skin and nerve groups just under the narrow edge of the handcuff.
- These same contoured arm channels work with the seatbelts to securely lock the prisoner into place and prevent them from turning around in the seat to kick at windows or partitions.
- Aedec seats are made from rugged TPO material, which resists fading and cracking from sunlight. TPO is a very tough material, which can be cleaned with a wide range of solutions that would damage or weaken other materials.
- AEDEC’s patented one-handed securing mechanism of the restraint system allows the arresting officer to administer the buckling process while standing outside the vehicle. The Officer is able to decisively bind the prisoner securely back against the seat with a mere pull of the arm. It is not necessary for the officer to place his head, body, torso or weapon inside the vehicle during the buckling and cinching process.
Q) HOW IS THE SEAT SECURED TO THE CAR?
A) The TPO seat is secured directly to the body of the car by sheet metal screws with finish washers. The restraint straps and retractors are bolted to the framework using the existing seat belt holes and fasteners.
Q) DO YOU HAVE A SEAT THAT FITS A VAN OR BUS?
A) We have developed a rugged utility seat that is suitable for bus, van and all SUVs. It measures approximately 22 1/4" across. It fits all models and bolts directly to the floor of the vehicle. The seatbelt retractor and buckles are mounted directly to the seat itself, making a fully contained system.
Q) CAN THESE SEATS BE TAKEN OUT AND USED AGAIN?
A) Yes, the Thermoformed seats are custom molded for a particular vehicle and can usually be moved to the same vehicle of a newer model year. However, before installing the seat in another vehicle, it is necessary to make a visual inspection for any possible fatigue or damaged areas that may compromise the safety of the seat in the future. The necessary repairs should be made at that time. It is recommended that the retractor portion of the restraint system be replaced after an accident and when installing the system in another vehicle.
Q) ARE THE SEATS INTERCHANGEABLE FROM MODEL TO MODEL?
A) Only the Modular seats that Aedec provides for SUVs, Vans and Pickup trucks. With new brackets these seats can be moved from one vehicle to a different model from a different manufacturer.
Screens are designed to fit a particular vehicle at a specific location and may not be reusable.,
Thermoformed seats will not move from model to model, since they were customized for each particular model in order to provide the most headroom and legroom, and still maintain a sealing edge, so that contraband cannot be slipped behind or around the seat.
Q) WILL THE BLACK COLOR ABSORB THE HEAT AND MAKE IT UNCOMFORTABLE?
A) Black seats do not show the dirt or scratches and appear as if they came directly from the vehicle manufacturer. TPO has a low coefficient of thermal transfer (it does not transfer heat quickly) and consequently will stay warm longer, but will not burn the prisoner. One of the police departments in Oregon set a seat out in the direct sun for 30 minutes and then had someone sit in it. It was warm but did not burn the skin.
Q) DO YOU GUARANTEE THE SEAT?
A) Absolutely! The mechanical parts are guaranteed (retractor and buckle assembly) by the manufacturer for the life of the vehicle or until it is involved in an accident. The TPO seat can be easily repaired, and all parts are guaranteed against defective workmanship. The system is basic and simple with little that can go wrong. Read our complete warrany policy.
Q. WHEN WILL I RECEIVE MY ORDER?
A. We will ship your product within one week of receiving your order.
